On Saturday, 22nd March 2025, LennyT of Luton Urban Radio (LUR) sat down with Chidi Umeano, the Partnership and Engagement Manager for the Over 50s Black Men Forum (O5BM), to discuss the findings of a ground-breaking survey on the experiences of Black Men aged 50 and over in the UK. The survey was launched on Father’s day (June 2024).
During the two-hour interview with LennyT, who was formerly a presenter on BBC Three, Chidi shared insights from the study conducted to highlight the economic, health, and social challenges faced by older Black Men. The survey, which gathered responses from over 300 men across different regions, sheds light on critical issues including financial insecurity, limited access to healthcare, and the impact of racial discrimination in service provision.
We want to immensely thank the Luton Urban Radio as this interview served as a crucial platform to raise awareness about the experiences of older Black Men in the UK. As Chidi Umeano stressed, “Until we can self-sustain, we need to be politically astute and ensure that our voices are heard while also working collaboratively to create lasting solutions.”
O5BM remains committed to ensuring that every older Black man has a Strong Body, Strong Mind, and a Strong Income (BMI)—a vision that continues to gain momentum across the UK.
